Hello !!

Here is the question again..
do scroll down for our answers !! =DD

You accidentally step on a rusty fish hook, while walking along the beach. There is profuse bleeding and you rush to the nearby clinic. The nurse dresses the wound and gives a tetanus injection. Explain the reason for the administration of the injection and the consequences of not administering the tetanus injection.

Consequences:
early stage - stiff or locked jaw = unable to open mouth or to swallow
proceeds to stiffness of muscles
late stage - affects respiratory system and death occurs

Tetanus is a acute central nervos system disease. People get infected tetanus infection when the spores of tetanus bacteria enters the body through the wound. This bacteria is able to produce toxins that affect the central nervous system. The toxins affects the neuromuscular junction resulting in muscle spasm.

tetanus infection is not only gotten by stepping on rusty nails.
In fact, there are many ways of getting tetanus infection such as body piercings, cuts, animal bites, tattoos, splinters, etc.
This shows that once the skin breaks open, it is susceptble to tetanus infection.

Tetanus is an acute, sometimes fatal, disease of the central nervous system, caused by the toxin of the tetanus bacterium. People get tetanus through an infected open wound If a person steps on a rusty fish hook (* given in question), for example, he or she could become ill from the spores of the tetanus bacteria. The bacteria produce a substance that is toxic to the central nervous system. Because the spores cannot germinate and the bacteria cannot live when there is a high level of oxygen, wounds that do not have a good blood supply or are not exposed to air are more likely to lead to tetanus.

Reason for administering the Tetanus injection:
-Help neutralize the poison that has entered the nervous system

my answer to the given question..=)

When a person is wounded while walking by the beach, there is a high possibility that he/she will be infected by a bacterium called Clostridium tetani, which is usually found in soil. Once clostridium tetani enters the body, they produce a neurotoxin known as tetanospasmin which will cause muscle spasms. This toxin circulates around the body via the bloodstream and lymphatic system, which interferes the normal activities of the nerves and eventually leads to generalized muscle spasms.

Tetanus injection is given to prevent tetanus as it helps to stimulate the body to produce antibodies that will neutralize the toxin. As it takes several weeks to be effective, tetanus immune globulin is also sometimes given to neutralize the toxins immediately.

tetanus injection is given to prevent tetanus infection. Teanus infectionaffects the nerous system and cause pain to the muscle.
